Tell Alls -- Is It Really Too Much?

Comments (6)

When is telling it all, TMI? There are a string of "tell-alls" that have hit the best-seller's lists and made headlines, from Kim Osorio's 'Straight from the Source' to Carmen Bryan's It's No Secret to the most famous of them all, 'Confessions of a Video Vixen' by Karrine Steffans.

Unlike the celebrity memoir -- which is about the life and times of someone who has a "talent" (singing, acting, etc.) -- these books have made the authors famous because of the salacious sex they had with celebrities. Sherri Shepherd, who is now famous for being on 'The View,' just inked a deal with Grand Central Publishing to write her tell-all memoir. But didn't she already tell it all to Black Voices' Jawn Murray?

I mean, we know about the numerous abortions, the husband who cheated and had a baby outside of the marriage, and her born-again status. What's left to tell? And this spring, Steffans is back with a how-to guide called 'The Vixen Manual.' I guess we get to find out exactly how she earned the nickname -- "superhead."

But when is too much information really too much? And what does it say about us that we seem consumed with wanting to know the intimate details of people's lives? Will you buy the Sherri Shepherd book? Do you want their 15 minutes to be up?
